What an exhilarating exchange! Today I gave an Author Talk to approximately 150 4th - 6th graders at a public elementary school in the Bay Area. I explained the process my co-author and I went through in creating WiKIDLY Awesome Travels - Paris and WiKIDLY Awesome Travels - London and talked about being a writer. The kids had intriguing questions in general and specifically about the guards at Buckingham Palace; how long are their work shifts, do they carry a sword, can they smile while on the job? There were more questions than we had time for in the allotted hour. More than 1/2 of the kids said they have been out of the U.S. They applauded when I told them of our recent Family Choice Award and asked that I come back to discuss our next book.
I was there to encourage the kids but in fact they validated my choice to write the books with my co-author and to continue the travel series. I was asked to autograph some books and one student came up to me after school and said, "Really awesome talk!". That was another stamp of approval!
WiKIDly Awesome Travels - Paris is a winner in the 2015 Family Choice Awards book category - http://www.familychoiceawards.com/family-choice-awards-winners/wikidly-awesome-travels-paris/
WiKIDly Awesome Paris and WiKIDly Awesome London will shortly be making their debut appearance on the Main Floor of Vroman's, Pasadena - home of the Rose Bowl. Vroman's is Southern California's oldest and largest independent bookstore and a real treasure trove. They will be stocking the books until the end of the year, so stop by, thumb through, and pick up a copy (or two).
Author Suzanne Lifson will give an Author Talk about WiKIDly Awesome Travels - Paris and London to elementary school kids in San Mateo county, CA. This presentation will be the first one of the new school year and may take place at other schools in the district.
On an upcoming book tour, stops include Florey's bookstore and local libraries.
Stay tuned for further details!
